Tropical Weather Center

To be honest, I have always been a tropical weather / hurricane junkie. I like to know where storms are likely to develop and watch the models all season.

When I started Hunker Down Guide as a resource about hurricane preparedness, I also wanted to make a “calming” weather resource. No hype, no drama… just facts. It is scarry enough without adding videos of people standing in flooded streets or people chasing the eye making landfall.

These resources are automatically updated from the source organizations, with tips and links to the official websites on each post. Many posts have animated maps and images.

Use the Topic Links to list related posts:

  • Forecasts – various tropical forecasts – number one is National Hurricane Center
  • Hurricane Models – projections days and weeks into the future
  • Links – to important and useful external weather sites
  • Maps – showing atmospheric and oceanic conditions
  • RADAR – images and time loops of current conditions
  • Satellite – data and images of Earth from our eyes in space

You can always get to these topics using the Table of Contents page.

I also will post podcast episodes about tropical weather updates when I feel something interesting is happening.

I am really extremely concerned about climate change. I invite you to look at my recent presentation on hurricanes and climate change. I go over what I see as the solution, but it is a very heavy lift.

Good luck with your tropical weather watching 🙂
