Spring Hunt
Spring turkey hunts are offered, permit only, in the southern/Mid Coast area. We hunt at local farms, fields and wooded areas for our turkeys. Turkey hunting is growing fast in the Mid-coast region. These birds were introduced to the area within the last 15 years. Since then the population has increased dramatically. New zones were added in 2002 and the permit numbers have been increased to 15,600 in 2004. Turkey populations are extremely high and continue to increase statewide. Mature "Toms", with long beards are common.
Junior Hunters
In 2004, for the first time, youths 10 years of age or older and under 16 years of age who possess a junior hunting license and a valid spring Wild Turkey Permit may hunt wild turkey on the Saturday preceding the opening day of Season A. Junior hunters must be accompanied in the field by a parent, guardian, or a qualified adult.
Fall Hunts
During the fall season both hens (females) and toms (males) are legal quarry, with a season bag limit of 1 bird. During Maine's fall turkey hunting season, only archery equipment may be used and an archery hunting license and fall turkey permit are required.
Hunting begins well before dawn and ends at 12:00pm (noon).
Guided hunts for turkey are available for both A & B seasons, includes transportation to and from hunting area, decoys, and calling.
Fall - archery only - hunts are available as well.
